WWE Releases Joey Mercury

Published

on

WWE officials have agreed on the immediate release of Joey Mercury. He had been scheduled to be involved in a match on RAW tonight with MNM facing Ric Flair and Carlito. That match was expected to lead to a match between the two teams at Wrestlemania according to our sources. Mercury was called to John Laurinatis’ office and released this afternoon. Many speculate that this is a result of Mercury developing a painkiller addiction after his recent injury. Again, all speculation, hopefully Mercury will release a statement himself and clear out the mystery surrounding his release.

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw: Who won this week? September 17, 2018

The Good

For Raw, Dean Ambrose versus Drew McIntyre was a great opening match to start off Raw. These two went back and forth and McIntyre ended up getting the victory after hitting a Claymore Kick. The rivalry between the Shield and McIntyre, Ziggler, and Strowman will possibly end at the Super Showdown so matches like this help elevate this rivalry.

For Smackdown, the segment we got from Randy Orton was one of the best pieces of his work. After defeating Jeff Hardy at Hell in a Cell, Orton was in the back at the production truck and he was harassing one of the workers to watch all of his assaults against Hardy. Orton then states that it will be nothing compared to his next victim. Things are looking up and really interesting for Orton going forward.

The Bad

For Raw, we got a filler match between Bayley and Dana Brooke and it wasn’t much. Last week, Dana Brooke decided to go on her own and it doesn’t make a difference because she lost to Bayley in a few minutes. Along with that, apparently creative has nothing in mind for the team of Bayley and Sasha Banks since the Riot Squad is dealing with the Bella Twins.

For Smackdown, they are deciding to have Naomi and Asuka be a team moving forward. While it probably would be better to have them face off against each other, WWE has decided to have them go against the IIconics next. Maybe the rumor of women’s tag team championship at Evolution are true and that’s why they keep forming women teams?

The Final Verdict

Fresh off of Hell in a Cell, both shows needed to show where they were going next. The Super Showdown does have lots of matches with implications on it and both brands are focused on that. But, Raw also introduced the Crown Jewel PPV, which will take place later this year and include Brock Lesnar getting his rematch for the Universal Championship. In regards to what show had more meaning and was better, Smackdown definitely took it this week. We got a great match between AJ Styles and Andrade Almas, Rusev Day unfortunately is broken up for good, and we got a great ending segment with Becky Lynch as the new champion. In conclusion, Smackdown is providing solid shows and storylines week after week while Raw does have some interesting angles, not everything they are trying is clicking.

Tommy Dreamer Says ECW Was Funded By WWE From the Beginning

Published

on

ECW legend Tommy Dreamer says that WWE funded Paul Heyman’s creation since day 1, even though it appeared, at times, that ECW was competing with Vince McMahon’s WWE during 1990s, and the infamous Monday Night Wars between WWE and WCW.

“I did not find out that Paul was in bed with them until we did any episode of Byte This together and he said it on the air and if you watch my face you can see it” Dreamer said, during an interview with WSVN-TV Entertainment reporter Chris Van Vliet .

“The story changes all the time, Jim Ross who was the head of talent relations at the time says they were in bed together all the time and that Paul Heyman would get checks, but Paul said he didn’t get checks.

“It’s many, many conspiracy theories. Shane McMahon told me Paul was in bed with WWE the entire time. Bruce Prichard said he was in bed with them since day one.”

Dreamer also talked about All-In, where he was seen walking with Cody to the ring for his NWA World Title match against Nick Aldis.

“Honestly, when I saw NWA’s YouTube show ’10 Pounds of Gold’ and Cody talked about Dusty’s five guys I seriously got all teary eyed. Then when talking with Glacier and DDP they were like we didn’t know that either.

“So now we’re forever connected. A lot of people say in life you can count your friends on one hand or you’re lucky if you can count them on two and for the fact that Dusty Rhodes counted three wrestlers that were part of his five guys, it was an amazing, amazing thing that we all witnessed together.

“Cody is someone I hired into WWE and The Young Bucks I use them all the time on my shows and they were like my main eventers before people thought they were main eventers. They’re my guys.”
