AEW boss Tony Khan certainly doesn’t believe that the decision to air the backstage footage from All In that showed a fight between ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry and former AEW and current WWE superstar CM Punk was a bad idea, despite the overwhelming backlash online and on social media.
Khan is celebrating the ratings boost and doubled down on his belief it was a good move after TBS expressed their happiness with the success of the show.
“TBS called me and told me ‘good job'” Khan said during the AEW Dynasty media call (h/t Sescoops) .”You have to remember, I’m responsible for everybody’s job in the company. It is really important for us to please the network and TBS was really happy with that show.”
Despite the majority of wrestling fans slamming the company, and Khan, for a heavily anti-WWE April 10th episode of Dynamite, one that was perceived to be an overly emotional response to the CM Punk interview where Punk accurately described the backstage incident that led to his departure from AEW, Khan is celebrating.
AEW’s ratings came back down markedly, below 800,000 viewers, this past week showing that they simply could not maintain the ratings bump that Punk essentially provided them.
